Distinguished Guest Lecture Series: Writing Arizona - From Journalism to Fiction In-Person

Lecture Description 

Banks will talk about the differences between journalism and fiction, his experiences in each, how he made the difficult switch from one to the other, and the importance of both in defining the state. He will also give his best advice for aspiring writers, including two tips he considers absolutely essential for getting started.

 

Biography

In his reporting career, Leo W. Banks has written more than 300 stories for Arizona Highways magazine and won 38 local, national and international journalism awards. His first novel, Double Wide, won two Spur Awards from the Western Writers of America – for Best First Novel and Best Western Contemporary Novel. The Arizona Daily Star named his most recent novel, The Flying Z, one of the noteworthy books of 2023.
