Distinguished Guest Lecture Series: "The Lovely Works of Marriage”: Sexual Politics in Ancient Crete with Dr. Brandelyn Andres In-Person
The upper-class women of Bronze Age Crete were assigned a heavy responsibility: they were tasked with using their femininity and sexuality to ensure the very political stability of the island. To this end, ceremonies connected to marriage provided instruction on how to be the ideal wife: cosmetically attractive, well-dressed, seductive, and physically healthy.
